Summer is the time for outdoor fun, beaches and boozy drinks. Let’s face it, most of us enjoy grilling out on the deck while enjoying a cocktail {or two} or going out on the boat for a day of sunshine & dehydration I mean cruising around carefree. BUT! I don’t know about you, I still want to balance decisions {mostly when it comes to sugar & carb content}.
Raspberry + Basil Mojito
It’s rather a simple cocktail {and quick to make}. Low in sugar but oh so delicious. I personally don’t like sugary drinks & this is no exception. This raspberry + basil mojito is light enough to keep you feeling refreshed without that gut-rut feeling from a typical mojito! Win-Win!
If you can’t tell from my blog name, I really enjoy Basil. I love it’s fresh aroma and how just a little bit can change the entire flavor of a drink {or dish}. Basil & mint mix extremely well together as they are both a part of the mint family. The recipe calls for both; however, you can simply exchange one or the other if you do not have both on hand. I also love love love limes which makes a mojito one of my favorite cocktails!
You don’t HAVE to use raspberries {it’s just what I had on hand} but really any berry would mix well with this cocktail. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries…. you get the idea!
In order to get the berries + mint/basil muddled, the secret is to add just a dash sugar to the bottom of your glass. If you don’t have an actual muddler, a wooden spoon will do the trick! Next, you just muddle {which is a fancy term for mash ;)} it up until it has the consistency of jam. Ta-da! You are one step closer to your fresh mojito! Mix in your vodka or rum {I personally prefer vodka}, add in your lime spindrift and don’t forget to squeeze in a fresh lime!
Top off with a few fresh berries and you are ready to have your cocktail and drink it too. Cheers!
